Established in 1980 by Robert and Chris Maxwell, Framin’ Works is Glendale's oldest custom picture framing studio and gallery. The Maxwells’ combined talents and skills result in the creation of framed artwork of superior visual impact and quality. In their shop, memorabilia, photographs, family heirlooms, posters, fine art, oil paintings, watercolors – objects as diverse as the lives they represent – are given new life and dramatic impact. All work is done on the premises. Chris says, "Our motto used to be 'you name it and we frame it,’ and it still applies today."
At Framin’ Works, refurbishing of framed artwork revitalizes old pieces. Dated mats are replaced with acid-free and UV protective glass to add many more years of beauty and enjoyment as each piece is guarded from ultraviolet light. As conservation framing specialists, Robert and Chris are up to the minute with the newest techniques and use of archival materials.
Consultation to achieve a complete overall design is one of their special offerings. Wall color choices, furniture arrangement, accessorizing, window treatment, art selection and framing all come together under Chris' expert eye. She states, "We always strive to give people much more than they expect."
In addition to being long-time Glendale business owners, the Maxwells contribute to the local community in a variety of ways. They provide mats to many schools in the area for their art department projects, and offer expert advice when needed. For more than 31 years, Chris has been an active member Soroptimist International of the Kachinas – an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls.
Refurbishing of framed artwork gives new life to old pieces. Dated mats may be replaced with acid-free and UV protective glass to add many more years of beauty and enjoyment to a piece as its value is also guarded from being compromised by ultraviolet light. As conservation framing specialists, Bob and Chris are up to the minute with the newest archival materials -- acid-free materials, mats, and UV protection glazing. Professional framers can create custom frames to hold a virtually limitless array of art and memorabilia: prints, paintings, documents, vintage coins, antique weapons, sports equipment, apparel, photographs, posters, labels, and even some three-dimensional art pieces, to name just a few examples.
